The Show

Bob Einstein, aka Super Dave Osborne, is one of the three funniest human beings I have ever known or worked with in my 50 years in show business. The other two were Pat Paulsen and Steve Martin. All four of us met and worked together on the show that set the trend for an entire generation of TV viewers in Canada and the United States, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, which Bob created and starred in as an unforgettable character called Officer Judy, and for which Bob, Steve and I won Emmys as part of that show's remarkable writing staff.

Since the early 1970s, Bob and I have been partners, having written and produced over five hundred episodes of prime time television. Shows like Van Dyke and Company starring Dick Van Dyke (for which we won our second Emmy), Bizarre, starring John Byner, and of course The Super Dave Osborne Show, starring Super Dave Osborne, "the greatest daredevil superstar entertainer of our time."

Bob and I first came up with the idea of Super Dave as a special event on the aforementioned Van Dyke and Company. We simply wanted to have some fun with the image of the daredevils of that era who were self centered, arrogant and absolutely ill-prepared to accomplish any of their stunts without suffering incredible bodily harm (like Evel Knievel, who literally broke every bone and tore every ligament in his body while attempting and failing at almost every stunt in his career).

After spending weeks trying to cast the character, it suddenly hit me! The guy most capable of breathing life into Super Dave was Bob Einstein himself. It took a lot of effort to convince him to do the part because he had made a decision to stop performing and focus on writing and producing. Thank goodness he relented! Bob BECAME Super Dave and Super Dave became a household name with dozens of appearances on Bizarre, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and of course, his very own long running top rated The Super Dave Osborne Show. It is our pleasure to present this collection of fabulous highlight moments.

There's plenty more where these came from and we would be thrilled to bring you Volumes 2, 3 and 4. Watch and enjoy!
